Due to some legacy circuits I want to access the BME280 module on the SPI bus rather than I2C. Is this something the OLA fw can do out of the box? Or perhaps there is another approach? Getting and logging the data is secondary to the larger task at hand and want to keep it simple.

Not without you writing your own firmware.
