Wav Trigger no led and pulsing noise

Hi,

I got a wav trigger a while back and finally got to using it for a project today, however when I power up the Wav Trigger there are no LED's flashing and the headphone output has a hum, followed by a quiet feedback sound which then goes in to a pulsing noise. The Load/Run switch does not seem to make any difference.

Is this something anyone else has encountered, or do I simply have a faulty board?

An update: grabbed a much more powerful 9V DC adapter, at 500ma it should be more than powerful enough. The pulsing sound has gone away but there is no LED activity. The area on the board around the headphone output gets quite warm!
