I am considering using the 5V FTDI USB adaptor cable to program my EasyVR project. Eventually I might include the FTDI connection on the board itself if I am able to duplicate the functionality of the cable.
If I were to build the circuit shown in the schematic for the FTDI cable (part #DEV-09717), would it work as it should once the circuit was built, or is there some other configuration (firmware?) involved with the FTDI chip itself? I have heard mention of built-in EEPROM on some FTDI products, as well as a configuration package for setting them up, which leads me to wonder if it is a simple matter of soldering these particular components together, or if there is more to it than that.
Also I see what looks like an inductor in the schematic (L1), but instead of being rated in Henrys it is rated with volts/amps. I am curious about what that specific component might be.
