Guys, Gals & Pals,
Need some advice. I am a complete noob/rookie about building rf hardware.
I am looking at Linx Technologies:

My goal is to build a long range remote control, possibly get the 1,000 ft range, so I can control software like PowerPoint and Winamp on my PC via USB connection.
I am looking at the Linx Evaluation Kit linked above.
The question is, do I need to create software for the kit or do I need some chip with a bootloader and script.
Any insight, ideas or advice will be highly appreciated so I can complete the project, buy the parts, buy additional parts, etc.
