Questions relating to designing PCBs

I have a design with two nets, one signal (8mil) and one power (50mil). The power net distributes unregulated 12V to several parts of the design that require high power (4 devices that can draw 1A each). One additional member of net is a 150mA sot23 voltage regulator.

Since the power input pin of the sot23 regulator has to be a member of this 50mil net, Eagle expects it's entire connecting traces to be at least 50mil but 50mil is so large that the DRC throws a (legitimate) clearance error.

I can manually make the traces smaller connecting the sot23 part on the board design, but the DRC then reports that there is a trace width error that has to be then be approved. Even so, this doesn't seem like the best way to fix the problem.

What is the RIGHT way to do this?
