PCB design is part engineering and part art. Probably the best way to learn is to try laying out a board for yourself. For that you need to get the tools.

If you read the forums here you will find several PCB design tools discussed and critiqued. One package that has many tutorials and examples is Eagle CAD. While some folks criticize its user interface, it is very popular. There is a version you can download for free to get started with. You can also download the Eagle schematics and board layouts for many Sparkfun products. There are dozens of tutorials on YouTube. I particularly like the ones done by rpcelectronics. You can start here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qG0O9LKH-_E

For an even more fundamental starting point check out Sparkfun's own tutorials on PCBs. You can start here: https://learn.sparkfun.com/tutorials/pcb-basics or go to Sparkfun's home page and click on Tutorials.
