Hello,

Just beginning to go through the Wireless Sensor Network book,
and I see that the book is written with examples for the series 2
firmware.

So, shopping for the radios, I see the series 2 is now obsolete.

Can anyone tell me if the series 3 (2.4gHz) zigbees use the
same firmware as the series 2. I don't want to add to my
box of obsolete things.

Thanks.

Probably not, as it has different hardware and functionality. But as I don't know enough about the newest series I would ask the people that should know it: the manufacturers at digi.com Go to the forum and search, or use the contact form directly.

As the 'series x' designation isn't really an official one I would suggest you ask about the compatibility between the specific model designations and firmware.

I decided to try the series 3.

If they've changed the firmware, I guess I'll see.
It looks like the series 3 only uses less power,
and everything else is the same. It always amazes me
how the tech data seems so vague and poorly written.

It's probably me though.

Be sure to read Digi's OEM user manual. It is clear and complete.
