Hi Everyone,

I am building a rather feature packed board (AVR Mega + Barometer + 3axis accel + 3axis Mag + 3axis Gyro + GPS + Bluetooth Radio + SDCard) in as tiny a space as possible, trying to keep the weight as small as possible.

I noticed the FTDI USB to UART chip has clock-out options, 6MHz, 12MHz, 24MHz and 48MHz.

To save weight (yes, milligrams matter and also remove the stress and clock drift on an operating quartz crystal at high-g acceleration) I was looking at using the FTDI chip's clock-out to drive the AVR micro.

I am wondering if anyone has anyone tried this configuration before?

There is no reason why it should not work. Unless it's not a normal ~square wave at the correct voltage.
