Hello I am part of the robotics club at my school (I am in charge of electronics and programing) and I was wondering if there are any good avr based programmable servo controllers I do not want to buy them I would rather make them my self, say something that can support up to 6 or more servos would be good, so just wondering if there are open source things thanx.

Just about any Atmega chip or XMEGA chip will give you enough power to easy control 6 servos. You could always use an Arduino.
