I'm looking at getting an AVR-JTAG for hobby use.

My prefered development platform is AVR-GCC on Linux. Does the AVR-JTAG work with Linux & GDB (or more specifically AVaRICE)? http://avarice.sourceforge.net/

I'm guessing the answer is yes as it seems AVR-JTAG uses the same RS232 protocol as Atmel's JTAG-ICE.

Can anyone confirm if this combination of tools will work?

It works.
I use it with Linux, avr-gdb, ddd, avarice etc.
