Have a good idea for a new product for SFE or Olimex? Let us know!

recently i have purchased a few of these. After a bit of tinkering with a few apps in the Android market place (namely: Tasker, NFC Task launcher, and WidgetLocker), i have managed to make it so that my android phone unlocks in the presence of a specific RFID chip, otherwise it will not unlock.

this is my product idea/request:

a programmable RFID tag, (like the ones you already sell) embedded inside of a men's ring that can be worn on the middle finger.

Only the wearer of this ring would be able to access an android phone. What do you guys think? the uses for a ring like this could be endless.

Hi kalzenith,
I was googling RFID Rings today and came upon your post. I, too, am interested in developing a prototype that solves a common problem I face everyday: scanning my SmartCard on the Metro in DC. Every day I have to reach back into my coat pocket or back pocket, pull out my wallet, get the card out, scan, etc, and less than a second later just put it back into my pocket. It's a huge traffic build up for any transportation system- I use my smart card for bus, metro, etc. If there was a fashionable ring I could wear that would a) solve the problem by just dashing my hand over the sensor, b) look great- would people want it?

You're suggesting the ring could be a fashion accessory programmable for a number of things, right? Please share more. To your point- creating the technology that allows a user to enable the ring for MANY purposes...i.e. an app or service that configs the ring for multiple purposes-that's what people would want. Of course, to build a product that seamlessly complements the technology is HUGE as well.

Let's chat,
Chris

I know this post is old but have ether of you made any progress on getting a ring made with an RFID chip in it? I have a lot of interest in making this happen. I have thought of making my own ring with polymorph (https://www.sparkfun.com/products/10950?) but the capsule RFID chip that sparkfun sells is for 125kHz and I need this to work in the 13.25MHz range. Anybody find a small 13.25 tag that could be put into a ring? This is with a 125Khz tag but is similar to what I'm thinking of doing (http://www.etsy.com/listing/14028795/rfid-ring)

I am also interested in this. Ideally I'd want to embed this 2.5mm ^2 Coil-on-Chip RFID http://biz.maxell.com/en/product_securi ... &pn=sp0006 into a gold ring crafted here http://www.weddingringworkshop.co.uk/cms.php?pageid=2
However I'm concerned about having it close to conductive gold metal and its effectiveness in this environment.
I previously had one (10 years ago) created with http://www.chinaicmart.com/series-DS2/DS2506.html 8KB (64kbits) write once storage device accessed via the 1-wire protocol. RFID reading, especially if possible via an android NFC phone to display 4KB - 64KB would be great.
