Apologies if this has suggestion is already out there, but I have been searching for a smaller split flap character display for a while. This would provide a look similar to flight status displays in airport terminals. It would provide a nice analog look to contrast technical projects.

Bump. Nixies seem to be so popular, why aren't more people playing with split flaps? And think of the good tutorial and parts sparkfun would sell related to this. If someone made a low voltage alphanumeric (or numeric) split flap it would sell well I bet.
