I suggest a simple LCD counter (or totalizer) display. Something low power and small, 5-7 digits, with a reset option.
I'm working on a project which uses the output of a PIR to increment a counter. So far I've got less than 20$ into this thing including all the components and a water tight box but I can't find a counter for under $40!!!! This is crazy! All I can find are self powered counters from Omron or Reddington. If I scour the net real hard I can find ones out of china but they require a minimum order of 1 billion
Someone suggested I buy a cheap tally counter (like the kind with a lanyard you can wear around your neck) and gut it. Something like this.
Honestly I'd rather keep buying my parts from Sparkfun.
