Hi all
I am designing a small digital low-power IR sensitive camera system.
The TCM8230MD from Toshiba fits most of my requirements very well.
However, in the spec., I can not find any explicit statement wether this
camera is IR sensitive or not.
Anyone that knows ?

All cmos image sensors are IR sensitive.

The ir component is filtered out one of two ways.

1. Ir blocking filter between the lens and the sensor
2. Software filter to remove the ir component

If you remove the lens I would venture to say there is a filter there.

er, ..how exactly do you filter IR in software....?

There are some sensors/modules with the IR filter either on the chip or as a coating on a lens element, so not practical to remove.

I found the IR coating is on one of the surfaces close to the CCD and can be polished off easily. When an outdoor shot starts loosing color and looks snowy, that's when the IR is overpowering the sensor.
