CP2101 installations problems

Hello. When I try to install cp2101 driver for Linux I got the following messages/fails:

-----------------------------------------
insmod: ELF file not for this architecture
insmod: Could not load the module: Success
---------------------------------------

Can anyone help me understanding this failure? I run linux kernel 2.6.12.

I know there have been a lot of discussion about this chip working with Linux. I'm hoping for a Linux guru to field this one.
