OSX device not found after reboot

Post by grimace » Mon Jan 28, 2019 12:50 pm

Hi,
I'm trying to work through an issue on my Mac:

I have device:

FT231X USB UART:

Product ID: 0x6015
Vendor ID: 0x0403 (Future Technology Devices International Limited)
Version: 10.00
Serial Number: DN02MNIY
Speed: Up to 12 Mb/sec
Manufacturer: FTDI
Location ID: 0x14700000 / 2
Current Available (mA): 1000
Current Required (mA): 90
Extra Operating Current (mA): 0

which shows up as
/dev/tty.usbserial-DN02MNIY
but sometimes after a reboot the devices does not show up in the /dev tree, even tho I can view it by :
system_profiler SPUSBDataType
The only way I can see it is to reboot the machine again. Anybody have an idea about why this would be?
Is there a way to reset the machine without reboot in order to get the device to show up again?
