Hi all,

I want to get something fun and educational for my son who is 29 and a programmer for a video game company in California. I don't think he has significant hardware experience, but obviously very proficient in real-time programming. I also don't think he is familiar with SparkFun or Arduino. He likes music and "techie" stuff.

I want to stay under $100.

In looking at all the options I am overwhelmed and don't know where to start. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

My advice would be look for a packet game kit. Sparkfun doesn't sell what I'm thinking about, the closest is the simon soldering kit.

But Adafruit has some good ones:

http://www.adafruit.com/products/950
http://www.adafruit.com/products/1783

But, since it's a couple of days before christmas, you could get him a gift certificate and let him chose what he likes.
