I repaired mine using the procedure at
https://learn.sparkfun.com/tutorials/in ... fective-mv
It seems to work fine but all the procedure did was put an Uno bootloader on the chip. Did I miss anything by not installing the "MicroView_combined_8-19-14.hex" file? All the example sketches that I tried seem to work fine, including "MicroViewDemo" and "helloworld".
