I'm looking to pre-program sequences/arrangements of LED lights and remotely activate a selected sequence through infrared. Any idea how to do this?

The programming of an LED sequence is one thing, but tying it to infrared activation is another.

The FreeM Infrared Controller https://www.sparkfun.com/products/retired/10246 seemed like a good option, but it has now been discontinued. What was great about it was that it could fire an LED sequence without the LED panel requiring a wired connection to any microcontroller, which kept the LED board small.

Any help solving the following would be great:

- programming set sequences of LEDs
- wirelessly controlling the LEDs
- keeping the LED board small (only a board, LEDs and power source)
