Thing Dev Failed AT Commands

Hello,
I recently purchased a Thing Dev Board and am experiencing some problems bringing it up. I have it connected to my PC via its micro USB cable, however upon entering AT commands into my serial terminal, I receive no response. I have the baud rate set to 115200 which I understand to be the Thing's default baud rate with carriage return and line feed also included.
Am I missing something simple?
