I just got this tiny DC motor (see link), I am going to use it to build a tiny toy train for my kid. I thought I could drive this motor with a AAA battery but unfortunately the motor requires a 3-5V input.

It is important that the battery remain small like the size of a AAA battery or smaller.

What are my options, what batteries could I use to power this motor.

Eventually I am going to use it to build a toy train for my 5 year old and I was concerned about a LithiumIon battery exploding.

Thanks in advance.

Nice little motor! 2xAAA should work well. The cells could be on a separate car.

Since the motor draws only about 20 mA at light load, you might even be able to use a CR2032 coin cell. Read about their performance in "high current" situations here: http://www.ti.com/lit/wp/swra349/swra349.pdf

A single lithium battery would be fine, but you can never let it discharge below 3.0 V and must use a proper charger.
