I am new to Arduino and microcontrollers and I would like to make a project which is essentially this one here.
The guide is a couple of years old and as such many of the components have been deprecated. I don't yet trust myself to go 'off recipe' and source then fit together new modules. I did some research and it seems I would need a mono amp and a sound source for the line-in, would the WTV-020. I am not sure how to control a blinking LED. My guess is that would be controlled through software uploaded to the microcontroller turning on and off a pin at an interval. I am not sure why in my link above all those components were use to drive an LED.
So in summary what should I buy? What would be a good way to start without too many component casualties?
