Serial spy with ESP8266

Hi,
I would like to snif a serial connection (half-duplex).
I suppose the best way is to create both 'Y' derivation from both RX and TX lines and place on each a diode to avoid echo.
Then both cables will be connected to the RX from the ESP8266.
Also in config, I have to set the correct baud rate.
But now, I need to get messages lines through internet (WiFi)
Is it better to assign ESP8266 as server?
How can I retreive communication lines therefore??? :confusion-helpsos:

Many thanks,
:handgestures-thumbup:
Phil.
