Control led strips (warm/cold) with gesture sensor and ardui

I got this 12v warm/cold led strips ( http://amzn.to/21GrhGq ) that i want to control with the arduino and a distance-gesture sensor. ( http://bit.ly/1TN6eyD )
I need to control 2 things
Dim the lights
from UP: maximum brightness to Down: light off
and
change from warm to cold using gestures
Right: Cold Left:Warm
But i don't have experience with coding or arduino, so i don't know how to start. Could give some guidance?
