Hi, I would like to send the brd PCB design of the retired PCM1803A https://www.sparkfun.com/products/retired/9365 for printing,
I just ordered the PCB through OSHpark, but now I am trying to understand which parts do I have to order,
I have looked over the BOM but I can see, for example in DIGIKEY that there are milions of capacitors with this values...and same issue for the resistors and etc..
could please tell me how can I know the specific parts? which technology ?

Part Value Device Package Description
C1 0.1uF CAP0402-CAP 0402-CAP Capacitor

Most is easy to figure out. The polarized caps are tantalums, 10uF. Voltage rating is determined by Vcc; I would use 10 or 16v. Package is EIA3216 aka 1206.
The other caps are 100nf (0.1uF) ceramic caps, X7R dielectric, voltage >= 16v, 0402 package (btw, do you have experience hand-soldering 0402? They are quite small...)
Not sure about the oscillator.
Based on other SparkFun boards, the regulators are more likely MIC5205 (the 3.3v and 5v versions)

Hi Mike,
Thank you so much!
I am looking for this Tantalum Capacitors, and I just found these TAJA106M016RNJ : http://datasheets.avx.com/TAJ.pdf
is it ok? the caps that sparkfun installed looks different:

Yes, those caps should be fine. Remember that on Tantalum caps, the stripe is the positive end...

BTW, the oscillator looks like it is XLL736024.576000X Nobody has it in stock, but Mouser looks like they can order single pieces with a 4-week leadtime.

Hi n1ist, Thanks!

I can see that there are two different packaging,
Packaging Cut Tape VS Tape & Reel
What do I need?

These parts come from the manufacturer in little pockets on a tape, rolled on a reel (similar to old 8mm movie film...). These reels can be placed in automated machines that will remove the parts from the tape and place them on the bare board (with solder paste applied) for reflow soldering. Of course, these reels can hold hundreds or thousands of parts. If you don't need whole reels, you can order cut tape; that's a section of the tape, cut from the reel, with as many parts as you have purchased.

For hobbyists, it is very rare that you will buy a reel of parts (I have picked up surplus reels of common parts like 100nF 50V 0603 caps since they were very cheap and are used everywhere); cut tape is much more common.
