Questions relating to designing PCBs

Hi,

I'm getting 3 Eagle overlap errors while trying to route a line through a MCP23017ML. It's a QFN package and I'm going through the center heat pad to connect some GND pins together (pin 11-13 + 6 are all GND so I made them go through the center). It seems like a reasonable thing to do, but it's not exactly happy about it. I know that I can approve the errors, but wanted to check if I can do this or if I would be best to route those lines around the chip

Thanks,
Chris

Does the center heat pad have a 'name'?
How about the line you are drawing?

If you are using a ground plane (which you should), there is no need to connect GNDs. Reiterating what skimask said, the heat pad should be named GND.

....ya know how many years it took me to figure that one out?....
In those 3 seconds when I figured it out, I slapped myself a dozen times, stepped on my own toes, banged my head against block walls, laughed, cried, drank drain cleaner, chewed on ice, and a few other things :D
