Questions relating to designing PCBs

Hi Everyone,

I'm trying to add the LM2576 in the TO-220 (5-pin) package to my board layout. The problem is that, when using the Sparkfun DRU file, the pads are too close together. I figured I could just copy the TO-220 part into my custom library and decrease the pad sizes slightly. However, based on this FAQ for Eagle PCB (http://www.cadsoftusa.com/training/faq/#11), it looks like Eagle will compare the size of the pads specified in my library and compare that value to the size it calculates using the DRU settings in the restring tab. If the size of the pad in the library is smaller than the calculated size using the DRU file, it simply increases the size. I cannot find any way to only decrease the size of the TO-220 pads. I really don't want to modify the Sparkfun DRU because it will decrease the size of all of the pads on my board.

Has anyone out there used a TO-220-5 case in their pcb layout? If so, did you have to decrease the size of all the pads on your PCB?

Thanks to anyone who can help or has suggestions!

Josh
