Tips and questions relating to the GPS modules from SFE

Hello All,

I have a gumstix basix 400 up and running. I would like to interface the GM862 device to one of the serial ports. As I haven't messed with logic levels much below 5V (hope this doesn't date me) I have a question:

Can I take the GM862's TX/RX lines (2.8V) and directly connect them to the gumstix's RX/TX lines (3.3V) without level translation?

Just don't want to ruin perfectly good hardware due to 0.5V...

Any help would be appreciated.

Hey, I'm no EE or anything [bit of a newb] but i think page 24 of this document...

http://www.telit.co.it/data/uploads_EN/ ... scr_r2.pdf

Answers the question. It appears the operational interface max voltage [normally 2.8v] is in fact 3.3v ... i get that from reading the second table on that page.

What do you think? I found myself wondering the same thing when a google search landed me on your question.

We run them at 3.3V on some of our stuff, but be careful not to go really over that.

Cheers,
