NMEA structure

NMEA data structure changes over time, in particular the RMC sentence seems to get a new field every now and then.

My question is whether data out put of the GPS receivers can also change? I.e. do they simply forward the satellite data
and must my application be aware of possible changing NMEA structure over time, or will the data output of my GPS receivers
always be the same for all firmware versions of that receiver?

NEMA structure will be fixed for the software version. It does not come from the satellites. Very little information comes from the satellites and nothing about your position. Only the condition of the atmosphere, the orbital parameters of each satellite, and various military crypto codes come down as data.
