Tips and questions relating to the GPS modules from SFE

I am looking at another project and was wondering about the capabilities of the GPS modules regarding visibility indoors. Is a direct line of sight to the satellites necessary for the modules to work correctly, or will there be "some" visibility indoors.

They should work indoors, the ones I have do.

Leon, what kind of antenna are you using?

The ability for a GPS module to work indoors depends on the antenna used, the module used, and how shielded the module is from the sky. For example, at one lab there is nothing but a thin aluminum/steel roof over my head and alot of pipes. I get 7-8 satellites easily in there with my EM-406. In another lab I'm on the 2nd floor, by the window, of a 3 floor building. I get 3 satellites there. Another person in the same area, but with a Garmin GPS, gets no satellites.

An active one, that helps a lot.
