Tips and questions relating to the GPS modules from SFE

I was wondering if anyone knows if its possible to modify this board for an external antenna? I have this board already and would like to use it in a project, but it would be underneath insulation which I think will block the signal.

So to avoid buying a new gps, is there any chance of modifying this one to accept an external antenna?

For an external antenna, you'll probably need a new (custom) board, since you'll need to provide power to the antenna. If you aren't attached to the MN5010HS, you could use another breakout board SFE sells with an external SMA connector:

BTW, I have one of these boards, brand new, that I'd be willing to swap for your "GPS Micro-Mini" if you're interested. Just PM me. Guaranteed not DOA, I haven't touched it since ordering it for a project that never got started.

The 5010 has an internal LNA, so you can use a passive external if the line is not too long.
