Question regarding EaglePCB smash location crosses

The last board I sent to a standard fab service I used EaglePCB's smash operator to place the labels of components in the silkscreen layer. When this is done it creates a 1 mil width cross in the layer and I never could figure out how to supress the display of the cross or alter its width. It wasn't an issue because the fab house edited the crosses out of the layer for me.

Now I want to create a 18-DIP carrier board for a few surface mount components and I have no desire to send a layout to a house that charges $33 for a PCB less than 1 square inch. However I am concerned that there would be problems submitting the silkscreen Gerber file that contained these 1 mil width crosses. Does anyone know how to supress the crosses, alter thier width or know if these below spec width lines will prevent using Sparkfun's service?

Thank you,
Paul Baker

Well it seems I needed to check some of the previous posts a little further to get the answer to my question (in this thread: http://www.sparkfun.com/cgi-bin/phpbb/v ... php?t=1199)

So if I understand correctly they will attempt to print whatever width is present in the silkscreen gerber file. (with questionable results which is not an issue since I don't want the crosses there to begin with).

The cross doesn't actually exist in any silk screen layer. It merely identifies the text selection point. This is where you click to select the text (i.e., for move, change, rotate, etc.).

You can verify that by loading your files into Viewmate; which is a good idea in any case.
