Questions about the BatchPCB service

I stumbled across this today. Looks like a great solution for hobbyists and looks like it exports to gerber files.

Give it a look and post your impressions.

Whoa. 7 minutes after downloading the program, I've dropped two ICs down, connected some pins, added some silkscreen text, added a ground plane, ran a DRC, and exported gerber files that I could then import correctly into our CAM software.

I've got to email a few hundred students and teachers. Be right back.

So I get a star for the day?

As a follow up. If you want to create schematics and netlists to import into FreePCB use TinyCAD. (Free again)
http://tinycad.sourceforge.net/

Finally if you plan on creating you own PCB with the software you will need Viewmate to print. (the software doesn't print yet) Additionally Viewmate can be used to view your files prior to submitting them to Sparkfun (of coarse free)

I emailed the author. He's a FIRST Robotics guru and liked our site  I will link to the software from the PCB Deal page.

Good finds! Possibly a star with a 'Good job' written next to it? It's silly to think what I valued back in the forth grade...

Nathan,

You mentioned using FreePCB and importing the results with your software. I tried a simple board with FreePCB and the drill file appears to be 2.4 format instead of the 2.3 format which you request (see below). Does that mean you can accept 2.4? I don't find an option in FreePCB for 2.3 but could certainly convert the resultant file to 2.3 if necessary. I have had several other successful submissions with a different software package but I need to switch since the other package is no longer supported.

Can we submit 2.4 under the 'successful submission' price or should I convert to 2.3?

Thanks,
Bob

Hey Bob,

There are a few other posts about this but I will reiterate: We can accept anything but it's Ben who has to guess at what format you've got. We give up after about 3 tries. Please make your drill file 2.3 - it very easy on us. If it's something else, please include a file that says '6.3 drill format.txt' or something so that Ben can import your gerbers.

Everything coming out of Protel is 2.3. Everything coming out of Eagle is 2.4.

That's not entirely accurate. The latest EAGLE version (4.14) defaults to 2.4 format but you can change it back to 2.3 format by editing the eagle.def file in the bin directory.

See this thread for more information.
