What determines the order of comments on a product?

When I post a comment on a product I notice that my post will be sandwiched in between a post from 6 years ago, and one from 4 years ago, with mine timestamped in the last few seconds. What determines the order that comments appear under products?
When I am considering buying something I'd like to see a chronological order of the comment threads, so that comments from 6 years ago referring to issues that were long since solved (like a mistake with the initial product post that got fixed within a day) can be ignored, while more recent comments that are still quite relevant are all together either at the top or bottom.
