Can the Wall Adapter Power Supply (5VDC 1A) be used with Arduino USB Board?

It may depend on what version of the board you have, but I typically use a 9 or 12 volt supply. The on-board voltage regulator needs a higher input voltage than the actual microcontroller does to operate properly.
I only use the 5VDC adapter when I'm working on a design that lacks a voltage regulator.
Check out the arduino.cc site for the specifications of the board you have.
