I noticed that most projects using the Si470x tuner breakout are using 3.3V to drive the board. However, in the Si4702 datasheet I noticed that it can be powered by 5V. Is it safe to use it with a 5V microcontroller such as the Teensy 2.0 (AVR) I'm using?

Also, the schematic says: '2.7V < VCC < 3.3V', implying that the board cannot be powered by 5V.

I would say no.
Look at the data sheet again. VD and VA can be 5 volts. The VIO voltage is rated 1.5 to 3.6 volts.
The schematic shows VD,VA and VIO are all on one voltage input connection.

Yeah, you're right. VIO has an absolute maximum rating of 3.9V.

Luckily, I still have a couple of Sparkfun level converters lying around. ;)
