photon battery shield

Hallo
just to prevent any damage i the components: can photon battery shield be used for either charging li-ion batteries?
i found everywhere in the description that is for Li-Po batteries, but in watching the documentation

i see in the picture a li-ion battery
What's the difference ( not between the two different battery technologies that i know) in using with this component the two different batteries?
