ZX Gesture Sensor measure range

Hi, I just received my ZX Gesture sensor (the updated one https://www.sparkfun.com/products/13162). The sensor is does not measure beyond 10 inches in the Z direction. At time it gives max value i.e. 255 at 8 inches. Is there any need for calibration or this is the expected behavior?
I have tried with Arduino MEGA and ESP32.
