Hello. I'm an electronics noob, and I'd like to create a simple circuit with a momentary button, a battery, and a buzzer. The purpose is to be able to Startle my cats when they start to fight.

I'm thinking that this buzzer, 100 dB at 61 cm, would be loud enough as long as it's within a dozen feet. Maybe even a couple dozen feet? Does that seem right? https://www.sparkfun.com/products/13940

And to provide 18V of power I can just wire two 9V batteries in series, is that right?

And I see a lot of momentary switches and buzzers, but is there one in particular you would recommend? Ideally, one that Stands on its own, i.e., isn't designed to fit into a circuit board, and would not require soldering?

Back to the batteries, is there any kind of Component That uses clamps or screws that would allow me to put those batteries into the circuit without solder?

it's not something I plan to use for a long time, so it doesn't have to be very durable.

Thanks for any help,
vonkurt

The buzzer will likely work fine.

this pushbutton appears to have 1/4" quick connect lugs - a mating connector can be crimped onto the end of a wire.

this switch may also work (and it's cheaper).
