Is there any work being done to improve the latency?

That work has already been done. MIDI-to-sound latency is 3.5 to 7ms and it's not likely to get any better than that. Tsunami is a polyphonic player and requires an audio buffer to mix multiple voices - just like DAW software running on a PC. The currently latency represents the best balance between all the realtime tasks Tsunami has to manage and ensuring that there are no clicks or pops due to a starved buffer.

Hope this helps.

Damn Sparkfun, took them sooo long(3 weeks) to get me into this forum so i could ask you that question!!!!!!! Now I started my project on a different route but am facing major head aches using RPi3 and Pure data. So bad of a head ache I might still go back to my original plan of using your board as you have ironed out all the headaches by the looks of it
