Hi there!

I want to use the new Lithium Ion Battery with 2Ah capacity, product number 13855 and I want to know if I can safely charge it at 500mA

Google the product marking to learn that the maximum charge rate is 1C (2 Amperes) and, that Sparkfun is making a nice profit.
