Dear Sparkfun,

I am designing a device that involves the Fio V3 in its natural environment charging a LiPo via USB.

I am considering adding a windmill attached to a tiny radio-control style brushless DC motor with a simple diode network rectifier and smoothing capacitor, to provide charging power for my device when it cannot be plugged in.

Is there a way I could supply this potentially higher voltage, and ripple-ey, power to the Fio V3 so it can charge the attached LiPo? I notice it does not have a "RAW" pin like the Pro Micro. Can I just patch this power into the USB VCC input? Should I arrange to clamp the input voltage, and if so by how much?

Kind regards,

Ihab Awad

Note that in this arrangement, I would want the Fio to *still* be able to charge its battery from the USB socket if that's available.
