Project: small collision advoidance robot

Product application: connect Arduino IDE via PC USB port to upload code instructions to an Arduino UNO Clone 328P chip with +5V VCC supplied by +5V power supply connected to the clone board's +5V rail

I have read all the Sparkfun materials for using this product begining at < https://www.sparkfun.com/products/9716 > with an Arduino UNO R3 clone built using the instructions provided by Ardunio.org at < https://www.arduino.cc/en/Main/Standalone >; however, it remains unclear to me:

Whether or not in this situation the +5V from the bot power supply to the clone board +5V rail MUST Be Disconnected when the FTDI breakout board is plugged into the clone board's 6 pin male header, because +5V is being provided via the FTDI connection.

Thank you for any advice you may provide.
