Is it possible to "parallel" most (excluding the STDBY lines) of the inputs (AIN1, BIN1, AIN2, BIN2, PWMs) on two (or more boards) and use the STDBY line(s) to function as "Board Select" lines? That would minimize the number of distinct outputs required on an Arduino (or equiv). For example, using two driver boards to drive 4 motors would only require 2 dgtl OUTs (for AIN1&2) to select direction, 1 PWM OUT (PWMA, PWMB tied together) to define speed, and 2 dgtl OUTs to select which driver board. And within each driver board the ANI1 and BIN1 would be jumpered together, same for AIN2 with BIN2, and PWMA and PWMB), which assumes both motors would operate at the same speed and direction, and at the same time.
