I've been using the Sparkfun AVR Pocket Programmer to flash an atmega328p microcontroller, and it's worked great for months. Tonight I unknowingly plugged the breadboard to the 12v plug instead of 5v on my bench power supply. Now Avrdude gives me "Initialization failed, rc=-1" so I assume I smoked the atmega328p. But I scavenged another atmega328p from an Arduino Uno board I had, and it gave the same error!! The pocket programmer was plugged to the breadboard at the time, but it's "Target Power" switch was switched to "No Power". Would 12 volts on the ISP wires destroy the pocket programmer also in this situation? I guess I could just get another one, cause they don't cost much. But I'd like to know if it's bad before I start replacing and I don't have any way to test it. Any advice?
