Well, the pic needs to multiply the clock to get a 48MHz USB clock. 12.288 won't work for this. Ans the VS1002 could use a 12MHz clock, but that would eliminate some supported bitrates, and would give inaccurate sound reproduction...
want to bet that it runs fine at 49.152. PICs are seriously overclockable. I've you are building for a commercial product you might have to do a little more qualification but 2.4% over-clocking is very likely fine.

I thought that it had to be fairly precise...
