I'm trying to find the bare chip here, not an eval board or proto board. I tried Digikey, Mouser, and Newark, and none of them appear to stock this baby. Any got an idea where I could buy one of these? From Philips directly, maybe?

Hmm... Olimex? You out there? I know you must have a source for these, since you manufacture the header and proto boards...

...anyone?

This is a link to Future Electronics, where they say "call for a quote". I only want one, not a package of a thousand.

This is a Philips site with "buy" links to Digikey (where they're out of stock) and AvNet (again, no stock).

Anyone else want to give it a shot?

Future will only sell them by the tray.

Have you considered just calling Digikey and asking when they're going to get more in or, if not, if you could special order one or something like that?

if you only want a couple, then call your rep. and ask for samples.

You mean my congressman?

I'm trying to work on an Open Hardware project. Maybe I could get samples, or maybe I could "special-order" a sinlge unit, but waht about all the people that will want to build the project? I'm sure not going to be ordering thousands and selling kits...

Seems a little silly, that Philips would come out with a product that noone can buy...

On the Digikey site, if you go to their main page for the 2148 chip and type in some number in the box beside "Quantity Available" and then click the button "Quantity Available", it gives an estimated ship date of 9/18/2006.

Maybe Philips is behind on producing the chip or maybe Digikey just doesn't keep stock of it. Normally with Digikey, though, if they don't keep stock of something, it says it clearly with the product. Although I have noticed that Digikey sometimes shows that they have a product way before they have physical stock of it (in particular, I remember this when they first started stocking Analog Devices).

I would first try to go the samples route if I were you and worry about the lack of availability later, unless you plan on trying to get other people to help you develop your circuit/software as you go along.

Why do you think our datalogger stock keeps fluctuating? :)

The LPC2138 went out of stock 2-3 mnths ago. Shortly after, we snagged the last 150pcs of the LPC2148 on the face of the earth. Phillips was having wafer fabrications problems. We recently got a shipment from Germany of both 2138s and 2148s, but I can't release the stock for you guys cause we're still shell shocked from the last shortage.

It's funny. SFE price on the LPC2138 is high. So whenever we started seeing orders for 40 and 50pcs from some very large-name customers, we should have known we were the last supplier to have stock anywhere. Instead, we got bled dry and our other products suffered.

Best of luck with the component hunting,
-Nathan

Poop. Guess I'll switch to the AT91SAM7s from Atmel. On the bright side, this shortage might increase community support for these chips, which is lagging behind the Philips chips right now...
