Hi there!

I'm working on a quilt that will (hopefully) contain "secret messages." I.e., a quilt that has panels that spell out a few words due to color change. I swear I've seen it done with conductive thread/yarn in a scarf, but now can't figure out what they were using!

So, is there a product that would change colors when introduced to a small battery? Or maybe it would work with thermochromatic paint? Or something else that I'm not thinking of?

Am open to suggestions and as a newbie need to come up with something on the low-tech side.

Soak the yarn in gas and it'll turn black.
Ya, it'll only work once, but you didn't specify that it had to be repeatable.

Seems there was some interest in electrochromic threads and fabrics some 5 or so years ago but I don't find any products using the technology today. Perhaps there's some really specialized uses but Google doesn't want to sell me any which I take to mean such things aren't generally available.

How about EL wire or masked EL panels under the cloth?

I can't imagine anything that would work with just conductive thread and the paint.
