ID-12 RFID module

Is it reasonable to buy RFID USB reader if you want to interface the ID-12 RFID module to your PC? Or is it just easy to interface the ID-12 RFID module directly to your PC using the serial port?

Based on the comments on the ID-12 page, it looks like it works just fine with a serial connection to a PC.
There are lots of informative comments with at least one correction to the datasheet.
