Very cool project. I'll pipe up and say that I like the choices of writing in C, I2C bootloader, and using the m168. Current sensing is a really cool addition, now if only you could squeeze encoders inside the servo housing ;)

If you're looking for more people to join, you should make a post over at AVRfreaks.net although it looks like they got hacked again...

There is one member who will likely be working on encoder input soon. For the most part people are trying to use this project in place of R/C style servo boards and don't want to replace any of the other hardware, but there are a few that are stepping well outside that scope. The extra flash and IO on the mega will allow support for wide ranging applications.
